PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Largely dependent on whether he gives you permission or not. Should you not be a peasant, he might give you permission to kiss the royal fingers.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: I love violence, but please communicate with me if it extends beyond the occasional shove or slapstick!

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: Unlikely to respond to attempts to this from humans, but you are welcome to try.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Please no.

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: None to speak of, please consult if you are planning on reading John’s mind but he is generally an open book.

MAGIC/POWERS: None to speak of!

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Anatomically a lion, albeit bipedal and in very good health.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: Things John might find offensive? Mentions of his family or that loathsome outlaw, Robin Hood. Much of John’s ego stems from jealousy and wrath, and humiliating him or questioning him will often earn his ire.

BACKTAGGING: Forever and always. I work overnights and thrive off backtagging.

FOURTH WALLING: I am okay with John being recognized as both a parallel to the historic King John and as a Disney cartoon character. While your character may feel free to recognize him as such, I would very much prefer that this not be the basis of every other thread I play with him.

THREADHOPPING: With permission!

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS/TRIGGERS: I can deal with most things! Though unlikely to come up with this character, writer does not enjoy any reading or threading out any sort of sexual violence.

ANYTHING ELSE: Will be updated if need be!

Content Warnings: None I can think of!

History: Here!

Personality: Much like the historical figure off which he was loosely based, Prince John is very much a power-hungry tyrant who is ultimately terrible for England. A history of motherly neglect and sibling favoritism has led to the prince-regent having something of a complex, adopting a childlike mentality that extends into his maniacal reign. Nearly all of his actions taken during the film are done with the intention of inflating his own status and ego, essentially leaving him on a power trip for the majority of his canon. To that end, becoming the ruler of England is what John feels he's always deserved, and he plays with the country like a box of new toys. Taxes here, a hanging or two here, all simply to self-inflate his own worth and establish himself as a to-be-feared ruler.

He oftentimes conducts himself in a manner akin to a child, simply content to spend his reign throwing around gold coins and throwing tournaments. Whereas the historical King John's taxation focused on the elite and upper clansmen specifically, the opposite is true here. Indeed, Prince John's taxation comes across as nothing more than a bratty exertion of his reign, collecting all the gold for himself to increase his status within his mind. He sleeps with gold bags, for crying out loud. References to his mother throughout the film very much insinuates that having been the lesser of the two brothers, John has something of an inferiority complex. Never destined for the throne and lacking the land his brother would claim, John's frustration eventually led to a scheme to take it. He's driven by jealousy, greed, and a demented sense of kingship.

His ego is shown to be fragile, meaning that he is continually pleased by attempts at diplomacy and worship. John is shown on two separate instances to be duped and distracted by both Robin Hood and Little John in disguise, who in disguise, stroke his ego and treat him as king in order to gain favor with him. The later instance with Little John, in particular, is worth mentioning if only because John is disguised as a Duke. This disguise leads to John attempting to becoming friends with him, showing that John is very much drawn to what he considers to be "fellow nobility". This is at least in part another attempt to present himself as regal, attempting to ally himself with those he also considers in wealth and power.

The other end to his childlike nature, of course, is his incredible cowardice. This is by far the trait that most people who watch the film remember John for, as the character has a memorable habit of sucking his thumb in situations wherein his mother is brought up. There are multiple scenes throughout the movie where John is attacked socially and/or physically, and each encounter has him retreat and demand his henchmen solve the situation. John, being nobility during his day and age, has of course had some small practice with swords and bows. However, he is only shown to attack someone once in the film, and immediately runs away as soon as he is disarmed of his sword.

His childishness also manifests itself through both a sense of bitterness, jealousy and wrath. It is made absurdly clear that a large part of John's motivation stems through envy of his brother, even outright becoming incensed when both his minions and the citizens mention his name. John's pettiness is well-known, and forms much of the film's basis, as he becomes increasingly incensed at the growing rebellion against his reign. When the citizens of the town come up with an anthem written to humiliate John, he responds by demanding their already-hefty taxes be tripled and jailing those who fail to pay. Anything to consolidate his reign. His minions also face the brunt of his wrath, with John being shown repeatedly demeaning and beating them. This escalates to him even attempting to hang Friar Tuck later on solely as part of a revenge plot, despite objections that the friar is a man of the Church.

It should be noted that while Prince John largely carries flaws, he is not utterly without his strengths. His scheming, for one thing, is shown to work. The canon begins with him in power, his scheme to drive his brother onto a crusade via hypnotism having succeeded. John also manages to draw Robin Hood out of hiding twice, creating perfectly-curated traps that bait the outlaw into the open. While Robin Hood is shown to fool Prince John once with a disguise, John manages to see through his second attempt at a disguise, noting Robin's tell of landing a perfect bullseye. He is not, however, fooled by John's disguise at least in part due to John stroking his ego while in said disguise.

John is not exactly the most efficient ruler and conducts himself in a manner akin to a fop. However, that does not mean he is to be taken lightly as a threat, so long as the circumstances are right. Deerington might allow him to grow in certain aspects, and becoming a more efficient combatant...provided that he isn't driving into a thumb-sucking stupor by endless visions of his mother and brother.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: John's primary strength is his ability to scheme, successfully luring Robin Hood into two traps over the course of the film. Most of his dirty work is carried out by henchmen, who he manages to keep in line if nothing else. That being said, John is of course still a coward. He will engage in combat if prompted, but when faced with the possibility of actual physical harm, typically will attempt to escape the situation.

It's worth nothing that John is an anthropomorphic lion, even if he is absolutely a frail one. In the very unlikely situation he is driven to embrace his more feral instincts, likely through the influence of the setting, John might be able to do damage. Provided he sharpens his claws.

Inventory:

- His royal ensemble. The crown, the robes, a couple of jewel-encrusted rings.

- His sword. He currently sucks at using it.

- Two small drawstring bags of cartoony gold coins.

- A hideous-looking pair of pajamas akin to a unitard.

"HISS! HOW DARE YOU MOVE ME! Put me on display! My gold, my gold, where is my gold!."

Prince John's immediate displeasure at being taken is just a bit overshadowed by his immediate desire of his own monetary items. Perhaps he had woken up in an unfamiliar setting, but...well,, he could hardly be considered a king without the crown to prove it. That must be his foremost!

So, where exactly was he? That is an excellent question, but it isn't one at the forefront of his mind. He concerns himself with his appearance first and foremost, but also makes sure to look under the bed and drawers for his gold and crown, hoping to find them. After all, whoever had brought him here was clearly a fan. He must make sure to put on an imposing image for the rabble.

In fact, there is hardly anything about the new situation that concerns him, with even the bad dream getting chalked to spoiled milk. He must have fallen asleep on his throne and been moved by Sir Hiss to an unfamiliar bedroom. After all, his mother's castle is vast, surely there are rooms even he hadn't explored.

Indeed, his pompous ego and own sense of denial had vastly inflated this situation in his mind. Why would anything so utterly wretched as a kidnapping ever happen to him? The thought was dismissed quickly, and he opens the door to his room

It is immediately slammed shut at the sight of the giant maggots out in the hallway. John takes to the other side of the room quickly, crawling under said bed, even as he sweats and struggles to catch his breath.

“HISS, STOP PLAYING GAMES AND COME TO MY AID! There are demons afoot!”

Permissions for Character: Here!
Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes. I am comfortable with him being recognized as both a Disney animated character and as an incredibly fictionalized version of the real King John of England.
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: I have a fondness for slasher media in particular, at least in part for iconic villains and over-the-top methods of gorey death. Everyone has a favorite horror movie killer, and I love the idea of some sort of threat in that vein. I also love the presence of paranoia and isolation, as well as the possibility of descent in madness.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Sexual violence of any sort.
